Tonight was full of surprises
Yes indeed, it really was. I popped by Agave to see my dear sweet lil Layla and found her sleeping soundly amongst the giant pillows in the back VIP room. In fact, I almost didn’t see her at all, she was nestled in so deep. The place was nearly empty except for six or seven people chatting over the low music at the bar.
Later in the evening a fight almost broke out at the bar between the two groups of people hanging out. On one side was one of Nashville’s top publicists and he happened to let it slip just a little too loudly exactly what he thought about the Mindy McCready/Roger Clemons scandal that had broke earlier in the day. The people at the bar didn’t take too kindly to the comment, especially since they just so happened to be the only two full blood brothers of Mindy and they had been defending her honor for much of the day. After several sips of tequila they had taken just about all they could. Somehow the music managed to go silent at the exact moment that the fighting words were exchanged, as if we were in a bad Western gunslinger movie.
But unlike so many adrenaline pumped situations, it diffused before it escalated - or rather the odds were so far outweighed that words were all that needed to be used to get the other side to back down.
I sat, in the corner, taking it all in. I love to people watch but I hate to see anyone get hurt.
Someone brought up the idea of sneaking in the back door of the closest movie theater for a midnight showing of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Moments later we found the idea turning into a reality, albeit with a bit of ”inside help.” I must say that it was far funnier than I could have possibly hoped for it to be. I giggled from start to finish. Really, you should go see it. It’s the perfect movie to see, especially if you are simply trying to “move on” with your life.
Then, as we left the theater, I happened to check my Blackberry and what I found truly surprised me - a letter from a friend, admitting their mistakes, admitting defeat and asking for help. I respected that. A lot. And I truly hope things work out for that person as he has far too much talent to waste.
I can’t help but wonder what Tuesday might have in store?
